L'Orfeo, Favola in Musica.
An Opera in a prologue and five acts by Claudio Monteverdi. Libretto by Alessandro Striggio.
Based mainly on the Orpheus myth as told on Ovid's Metamorphoses, though drawing also on the accoung in Virgil's Georgics.
First performed in the Gonvaga ducal palace, Mantua on 24 February 1607.
A new production. In Italian with English subtitles.
