     David & Jonathan - $35
- our highly acclaimed 2008 production.
Experience internationally-renowned Pinchgut Opera’s performance of Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s dramatic David & Jonathan. Swedish tenor Anders J Dahlin and Australian soprano Sara Macliver headline as the doomed lovers in this long-forgotten masterpiece. Performed in French on period instruments.
“totally compelling” (SMH Dec 08)
“elegance and exuberance” (The Australian Dec 08)

Juditha Triumphans - $35

Our sixth production recorded in 2007. Starring Sally-Anne Russell, David Walker, Fiona Campbell, Sara Macliver and Renée Martin, with the Orchestra of the Antipodes and Cantillation conducted by Attilio Cremonesi.

"Holofernes is taken here by smooth-toned counter-tenor David Walker. Sally-Anne Russell sings Juditha with a cultivated tone, while Sara Macliver's sound is captivating as the higher-voiced Abra. Renee Martin brings a well-coloured and dramatic edge to the priest, Ozias, and Fiona Campbell as Vagaus gives a clear and fiery reading of her revenge aria after discovering her headless boss." (CD review, Sydney Morning Herald, January 2009). Recorded for CD by ABC Classics.

Idomeneo - $35

Our fifth production recorded in 2006. Starring Mark Tucker, Fiona Campbell, Martene Grimson, Penelope Mills and Paul McMahon, with the Orchestra of the Antipodes and Cantillation conducted by Antony Walker. Recorded for CD by ABC Classics.

"This live recording of Pinchgut's 2006 production (with cuts in Act 3) is notable for the promise of its young cast, particularly the women, a superb chorus and the raw colour of its classical instruments orchestra under Antony Walker ..." (Sydney Morning Herald, February 2008)

Dardanus CD

Dardanus - $35

Our fourth production - and the Australian premiere of this wonderful work by Rameau - recorded in 2005 and released December 2006. Starring Paul Agnew, Paul Whelan, Kathryn McCusker, Stephen Bennett and Damian Whiteley, with the Orchestra of the Antipodes and Cantillation conducted by Antony Walker. Recorded for CD by ABC Classics.

"Pinchgut Opera delivers a refreshingly incisive and unmannered reading one which develops at a natural pace, born of immersion in a production rather than a series of sessions. Antony Walker’s direction is impressively focused in its judgement of tempi and juxtaposition of mood, and there is a questing instrumental contribution which starts with an exceptional continuo presence. ... The most wonderfully simple but distinctive music in the opera is the sommeil scene in Act 4 when Dardanus is sensuously hypnotised to sleep. It is beautifully done and encapsulates the most inviting aspects of this enterprising and welcome addition to the catalogue." (Gramophone, July 2007)

L'Orfeo - $45

Our third production - of Monteverdi's amazing work - recorded in 2004 and released December 2005. Starring Mark Tucker, Sara Macliver, Paul McMahon, Brett Weymark and Damian Whiteley, with the Orchestra of the Antipodes and Cantillation conducted by Antony Walker. Recorded for CD by ABC Classics.

"Sydney's Pinchgut Opera sure knew how to cast their acclaimed production of L'Orfeo, staged in December 2004 at the City Recital Hall. ... heaven on this recording always wins out over hell and anyone who saw the production, or wishes they did, will treat this two CD set as a treasured memento of an important event." (Limelight, February 2006)

The Fairy Queen - $30

Our second riotous production studio recorded in 2003 and released December 2004. Starring Sara Macliver, Miriam Allan, Sally-Anne Russell, Jamie Allen, Paul McMahon, Corin Bone, Simon Lobelson and Stephen Bennett, with the Orchestra of the Antipodes and Cantillation conducted by Antony Walker. Recorded for CD by ABC Classics.

" ... The Fairy Queen performances are vivid and exuberant ... Walker gets a gutsy sound from the orchestra (there's nothing namby-pamby about this lot's approach to period-instrument playing) and the singers bring the zing of their stage work to this studio recording." (The Australian, January 2005)

Semele CD

Semele - sadly not available at this time

Our first production recorded in 2002 and released December 2003. Starring Anna Ryberg, Angus Wood, Sally-Anne Russell, Tobias Cole and Stephen Bennett, with the Sirius Ensemble and Cantillation all conducted by Antony Walker. Recorded for CD by ABC Classics.

" ... Semele certainly emerges operatically in this excellent recording, taken from a series of live concerts in the fine acoustics of Sydney's Angel Place recital hall in late 2002 ... The opera is complete on three CDs and fairly fizzes along. More, please." (The Age, January 2004)
