And an audience response:- “It was one of the most wonderful nights of my life. I’ll never forget it. Everyone I was with loved it” Hillary Vance.
Written five years before his death this work represents perhaps the culmination of his opera writing career, and the crowning glory of his relationship with his most famous pupil Anna Girò (for whom the part of Griselda was written). Vivaldi wrote this amazing opera carefully balancing vocal pyrotechnics, expansive orchestral writing and the poignancy of the characters and story. In both style and form is vastly different from his Juditha Triumphans (which we performed in 2007). Juditha was an oratorio, and this work for us is the first opera in the gallant style since our inaugural production of Handel’s Semele in 2001. It requires a superb cast with great vocal and dramatic skills! We presented 4 performances of Vivaldi’s Griselda on 30 November, 3, 4 & 5 December at the City Recital Hall Angel Place, Sydney. It was the first Australian production of this work
