Mark Gaal - Director
Mark is a graduate of the University of Queensland and NIDA. Productions include the Australian premiere of Berg’s Lulu (Opera Australia), Fassbinder’s The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant (Sydney Theatre Company) and Cockroach Opera
(a co-production between Company B and the Aboriginal & Islander
Dance Theatre). For three years Mark was Artistic Director of ATYP,
where he directed Brecht’s The Caucasian Chalk Circle, the Shakespeare plays The Tempest and Romeo & Juliet, Wedekind’s Spring Awakening and the commissioned play All Stops Out,
which toured nationally and internationally. Mark worked in the UK and
Germany for the Really Useful Company and was responsible for the
German and Australian premieres of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard.
He was part of the creative team of the Sydney 2000 Olympics Opening
Ceremony and works with students on the full time and short-course
programs at NIDA, where productions include As You Like It, The Watchtower and The Treatment. Mark wrote and directed Such A Storm, based on Mahler’s song cycle Kindertotenlieder
for Hothouse Theatre, and has directed productions for Hi-5 which also
toured nationally, to Malaysia, Singapore and the UK. Mark recently
directed a program of Aeschylus and Shakespeare, representing NIDA at
the UNESCO/ITI conference and the Busteni International Theatre
Festival in Romania. Mark directed our production of L'Orfeo in 2004.

Hamish Peters - Designer
Hamish is a graduate of the Design course at NIDA. Hamish’s work for the theatre includes Idomeneo and Dardanus for Pinchgut Opera, directed by Lindy Hume, Derrida in Love for Ensemble, directed by Mark Kilmurry, Terrorism (square the circle), Romeo and Juliette (Opera Australia/Opera Queensland), Lawrence and Holloman (Darlinghurst Theatre), Don Juan, Fragments and Le Mariage Force (Bread and Butter Theatre), Sleeping Around (Downstairs Belvoir), Box and Quotations from Chairman Mao, The Women of Lockerbie and Mother Theresa is Dead (Cumulus Productions), How Much is You Iron (Department of Education), Loveplay (Ride-0n/B Sharp), Beatrice (atyp). For Film and TV Kings Caravan (Myacamus Films), Wishing You Were Here and Cake (Briony Dunn), Come Here Leon, The Trees and Afterlife (AFTRS). While at NIDA, Hamish designed costumes for The Duchess of Malfi and sets for Country Music by Nick Enright, the inaugural Production in the New Parade Theatre. He is also designing Brilliant Monkey for Pork Chop in August.

Bernie Tan-Hayes - Lighting Designer
In recent years Bernie has lit and toured many productions. Amongst his drama and musical credits are: Gondwana for Erth Visual and Physical, Macbeth for Sydney Theatre Company, Drill and Special Mention for Stompin, The Admiral’s Odyssey for Action Theatre Singapore, Amigos for La Boite Theatre Company, Dreaming Transportation for Performing Lines, The Flood, The Seed and Mr BBQ for NORPA, Story Time and Write Now 2001 for The Naked Theatre Company, Bob Cats Dancing, Bob Cat Magic and Charters Towers the Musical for The Queensland Music Festival, Knives in Hens for B Sharp, Borderlines for Griffin Theatre Company, Angle City, Mary Stewart and Freak Winds for Tamarama Rock Surfers, Hamlet for Pork Chop Productions and A Couple of Blaguards for Ensemble Theatre Company. His opera credits include: Semele, The Fairy Queen, L’Orfeo, Dardanus and Idomeneo for Pinchgut Opera, Cosi Fan Tutte for Pacific Opera, Dialogue of The Carmelites and Pirates of Penzance for the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. In association with Nick Schlieper Bernie has worked on: The Ring Cycle and Parsifal for State Opera of South Australia, Two Brothers, Great Expectations, Inheritance and The Visit for Melbourne Theatre Company, The Bourgeois Gentleman School for Scandal for Sydney Theatre and Twinkle Twinkle Little Fish for Windmill Performing Arts.
