Alice Rickards was born in Armidale, NSW and studied violin at the QLD Conservatorium and the Royal Academy of Music, London. She currently lives in Glasgow and is a member of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and also performs with the Australian Haydn Ensemble and the Dunedin Consort. She is part of Sequoia, an award-winning violin & cello duo dedicated to exploring the natural world through music. Sequoia’s project WATER MUSIC source to sea won the New Music Programme category at the 2023 Scottish New Music Awards. In the same year Delphian Records released Earth, thy cold is keen, an album of new work by Stuart MacRae for Sequoia and Australian mezzo soprano Lotte Betts-Dean, which has met with critical acclaim. Sequoia’s debut album ISOLA was released in 2022, showcasing music by young Scottish-based composers.
