Dean Bryant is an award-winning writer/director who directed Giustino for the company and is Artistic Director/co-CEO of Malthouse Theatre. Opera Australia credits include Candide (Victorian Opera production, Green Room award), La Boheme national tour, Anything Goes and Two Weddings, One Bride.

Other recent credits include The Normal Heart (Sydney Theatre Company/STCSA), Tivoli Lovely (WAAPA), Circle Mirror Transformation (STC), Dear Evan Hansen (STC/Michael Cassel Group), Bloom (STC/Melbourne Theatre Company), A Little Night Music (Hayes Theatre, Sydney Theatre Award), Hubris & Humiliation (STC), Show People, It’s A Sin: Songs of Love and Shame (both Sydney Festival) and Fun Home (STC/MTC, Sydney Theatre and Green Room awards).

He was Associate Director at Melbourne Theatre Company 2016-2019 where his other credits include Torch the PlaceKiss of the Spider WomanThe Lady in the VanAn Ideal HusbandWildVivid WhiteBorn YesterdaySkylight and I’ll Eat You Last. Other credits for Hayes Theatre include Merrily We Roll AlongAssassinsLittle Shop of Horrors (Sydney Theatre Award) and Sweet Charity (Helpmann Award).

He has a writing partnership with composer Mathew Frank and they wrote the smash-hit adaptation of My Brilliant Career for MTC with Sheridan Harbridge, receiving Green Room Awards for Outstanding Production and Outstanding Writing. The musical returned to MTC this year, and toured the country, also playing a season at STC. Mathew and Dean wrote the Green Room Award-winning musicals Prodigal and Once We Lived Here, and Virgins: A Musical ThreesomeThe Silver Donkey, and songs for Mr & Mrs Murder. Dean created many solo shows, including smash-hit Britney Spears: The Cabaret, as well as verbatim plays Gaybies and Well…That Happened and made his film directing debut with short Rhyme Time.
