Eugene Lynch, hailed as “a talent to watch” (Sydney Morning Herald), is a director of theatre and opera.

Eugene recently made his directorial debuts with Pinchgut Opera and Sydney Chamber Opera to critical acclaim. He is also currently a Young Artist with Opera Queensland.

Recent projects include Maid Made Boss / La Serva Padrona (Pinchgut Opera), Pierrot Lunaire (Sydney Chamber Opera & Ensemble Offspring), IRL and The Pigeons (KXT); The Hairy Ape (development) funded by Create NSW & Creative Australia; and In a Grove (workshop) by Chris Cerrone (Opera Queensland).

Recently, Eugene directed IRL by Lewis Treston, The Pigeons (The Other Theatre in association with bAKEHOUSE Theatre Co); was Associate Director on La Cenerentola (Opera Queensland, Assistant Director on Julius Caesar at Pinchgut Opera, Hamlet at Opera Australia, Associate Director on Lucia di Lammermoor and the Brisbane Bel Canto Festival with Opera Queensland.

Eugene was Assistant Director to Stuart Maunder on Turn of the Screw and Voss for State Opera of South Australia, Neil Armfield on Platée for Pinchgut Opera and on Barrie Kosky’s The Golden Cockerel for the Adelaide Festival.

Eugene is the artistic director of The Other Theatre (https://www.theothertheatre.com.au/). For The Other Theatre, he has directed Graeme Koehne and Louis Nowra’s Love Burns, From Morning to Midnight, IRL, The Pigeons, Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas, Shakespeare’s Richard II, Mike Barlett’s Cock (Sydney Mardi Gras Festival x Brand X) and the Australian premiere of Marius von Mayneburg’s The Dog, The Night and The Knife.

Upcoming credits include: Coffee and a Dead Canary (Pinchgut Opera); as assistant / associate director: Semele (Pinchgut Opera, dir. Neil Armfield), Rusalka (Opera Queensland, dir. Sarah Giles); La Cenerentola (Opera Queensland, dir. Laura Hansford).
