James Tarbotton began his musical studies with violin and piano at the age of four. He was a keen performer as a child, competing in many eisteddfods and participating in the Even Younger Performer broadcast series at 2MBS-FM. At the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, he studied a Bachelor of Music (Performance) in Historical Performance, performing in the Early Music Ensemble and participating in masterclasses with Rachel Podger, Shunsuke Sato and Louis Creac’h.


During and after his studies, James has had the opportunity to play baroque violin with The Muffat Collective, Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Pinchgut Opera, Bach Akademie Australia and more.


James has always enjoyed collaborating with other artists on a wide variety of musical ventures demonstrating his versatility with violin/viola, piano and voice. Composing, recording and performing with various contemporary musicians.
