Olivia Payne is a Newcastle-born Mezzo-Soprano. She studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, completing a Bachelor of Music Performance (Classical Voice) and a Masters of Music Studies (Opera Performance). She also attained an ATCL Diploma through Trinity College London. Olivia was the 2023-2025 Taryn Fiebig Scholar with Pinchgut Opera and a 2022-2023 Young Artist with Opera Queensland.
With Pinchgut Opera, Olivia has performed in The Loves of Apollo and Dafne (chorus), Médée (chorus), Rinaldo (Siren), Theodora (chorus), Dido and Aneas (Second Witch & Spirit) and The Fairy Queen (Spring & Ensemble). As a current full time member of the Opera Australia chorus, she has performed in many operas including; Hamlet, Candide, Dido and Aneas, La Bohème, Carmen, Le Nozze di Figaro and Rusalka. With Opera Queensland, she covered the role of Dorabella and performed with the chorus in Così fan Tutte. Other roles include Nancy in Albert Herring, Papagena in Die Zauberflöte, Hermia in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and La Libelulle in L’Enfant et les Sortilèges.
In concert, Olivia has performed in Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Cantillation and Sydney Symphony Orchestra), Bach’s Christmas Oratorio (Bach Akademie Australia), St John’s Passion (Alto Soloist - Sydney University Graduate Choir), Opera Cocktails (featured artist - Newcastle Music Festival) and with Pinchgut Opera in their Eternal Light concert series.
