Shannon Burns
Movement Director / Choreographer
Shannon is a choreographer whose work spans opera, theatre, live performance and film. She has collaborated extensively with Pinchgut Opera, with credits including The Fairy Queen (2025), Dido and Aeneas (2024), Giustino (2023), Pleasures of Versailles (2023), Orontea (2022), Platée (2021), and A Delicate Fire (2020). For Opera Australia, she choreographed La Traviata on Sydney Harbour (2021), Carmen on Cockatoo Island (2022), and Carmen (2025), and internationally, she choreographed Pierrot Lunaire for the Berlin Philharmonic (2024).
Her work with Victorian Opera includes Il Tabarro (2024), Cheremushki (2023), and Abduction (2025). She has also created work for Musica Viva Australia and the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, and choreographed the world premiere of Siegfried and Roy: The Unauthorised Opera (2025).
In theatre, her credits include the Australian tour of Dear Evan Hansen (2024); The Producers (2025); Orlando (2025); and Bright Star (2025). She is a regular collaborator with Hayes Theatre Co, where her work includes A Little Night Music (2023), Murder for Two (2023–25), Ride the Cyclone (2024), The Pirates of Penzance (2025), and Gutenberg! The Musical! (2026). Shannon has also created work for Vivid Sydney, CDP Theatre Producers, Red Line Productions and New Ghosts Theatre Company.
Before transitioning to choreography, Shannon performed across stage, film, television, and major events. She trained at the Queensland Dance School of Excellence and ED5INTERNATIONAL.
