Latvian-Australian soprano Lana Kains has taken to the national and international stage with musical works from Baroque to Contemporary. From her start as a young singer in Darwin, where she performed as a soloist in the Darwin Carols by Candlelight and in the premiere of WindRose by Cathy Applegate with the Darwin Symphony Orchestra, Lana has gone on to sing with some of Australia’s most highly regarded companies, including Pinchgut Opera and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. So far this year, Lana has had her solo debut with Pinchgut Opera, singing in the chorus and as Second Woman in Dido & Aeneas. She also travelled to Hobart to sing Mozart’s Requiem in D minor and later to perform Mozart’s Great Mass in C with Festival of Voices, conducted by Elizabeth Scott. Lana has strong ties to Tasmania, where her family live. She sang Händel’s Messiah in St. David’s Cathedral in 2019 and 2020 and has participated in many Festival of Voices projects as a chorister and soloist. Lana debuted with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, singing in their 2017 children’s concert series including: Sir Scallywag and the Golden Underpants and The Snowman. Later, in 2020, she sang Waldgespräch by Zemlinsky in their Friday Night Live series conducted by Johannes
Fritsch. This performance was streamed live and has been broadcast on ABC Classic FM.
Lana has a Bachelor of Music Performance in classical voice and a Master of Music Studies in opera performance from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and continues to study with her singing teacher Maree Ryan.
