Owen began singing as a choral scholar at Lichfield Cathedral and studied at the Royal Academy of Music, with Noelle Barker, Iain Leadingham and David Lowe.
Recently Owen sang FAMIGLIARI The Coronation of Poppea Opera North, SUMMER The Fairy Queen and SOLOIST Bach’s St. John Passion Nationale Reisopera, Handel’s Giulio Cesare (title) Finnish National Opera, and made his American debut as ORFEO Orfeo ed Euridice and ARSACE in Handel’s Partenope Boston Baroque (Martin Pearlman). Other engagements were the 2013 Jerwood Project: Awakening Shadow a dramatization of Britten Canticles in Glyndebourne, Handel’s Messiah Portland Baroque Orchestra, OTTONE L’Incoronazione di Poppea Royal Academy Opera, Reykjavik Summer Opera, and Iford Arts Festival, ANFINOMUS/HUMANO FRAGILITATA Il Ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria Birmingham Opera Company (Graham Vick), Handel’s Orlando (title) Halle Opera House and Halle Handel Festival, the alto arias in Bach’s Johannes Passion in a staged production Dutch National Reisopera, and The Fairy Queen (Emmanuelle Haim).
Owen has performed concerts across the world, including Bach’s Johannes Passion and Matthäus Passion, a concert of Bach solo cantatas for alto, Purcell’s Ode to St Cecilia, and Mozart’s Mass in C Minor for Les Musicians de Louvre, Handel’s Messiah and Bach’s Weihnachts-Oratorium for the Telemann Chamber Orchestra, Japan, Handel’s Orlando (title role) for the Vancouver Early Music Festival, and Scarlatti’s Penelope la Casta Lautten Compagney. Owen Willets has worked with many of the leading names in historical performance, including Laurence Cummings, Christian Curnyn, Emmanuelle Haim, Marc Minkowsi, Martin Pearlman, Howard Arman and Raphael Pichon.
Owen will perform the role of Ottone for our 2017 production of Monteverdi's Coronation of Poppea.
